Japanese Modern Style Scoring
Mahjong is a game that started in China. It involves four players, fascinating Chinese tiles, scoring and monetary value for the points yielded by individual players. There are variations in types of mahjong and these variations include their specified scoring. Some of the popular scoring methods are Hong Kong Mahjong Scoring, Mahjong Competition Scoring, Japanese Mahjong Scoring, European Classical Mahjong Scoring and American Mahjong Scoring.
One Han Hands:
Closed Tsumo:
A hand that a player completes without any melds and self-draws to finish.

Colors:
One Set (Pung) of Dragon tiles. May be concealed or melded.

Table Wind:
A Pung of the Table Wind which corresponds to the round in progress. May be concealed or melded.

Seat Wind:
A Set (Pung) of that player's Seat Wind (always East when the player is the dealer; for the other players, proceeds in the order South-West-North to the right of the dealer). May be concealed or melded.

Ready:
Any time your hand is Closed and Ready, you may declare a Reach. Also note that you can only Reach if you have at least one more draw after the Reach (in other words, 4 tiles left at the time of Reach).

Flat Hand:
The Flat Hand (also known as No Points) combines well with any of the Run-based hands (Doube Run, Triple Run, Straight). The Flat Hand is essentially a hand of All Runs. Must finish with an Open Wait. The hand must be concealed.

Inside Hand:
A hand formed without Terminal or Honor tiles. The Hand is made up of Suit Tiles 2 through 8.

Double Run:
Two runs of the same suit and same numerical sequence. The hand must be closed. It does not combine with All Pairs.

Instant:
Instant is a 1-han bonus for a player that first Reaches and then goes out on one of the next four tiles (that is, one of the other three players' discards after the Reach, or the player's first draw after the Reach).

Last Tile Ron:
Going out on a draw of the very last tile of the game.
|
Out on Extra Tile Draw:
Going out on the replacement tile drawn after achieving a Kon (Kong).
|
Late Kan Ron:
Winning off the tile that a player adds to a melded Pung to create a Kong.
|

Two Han Hands:
Triple Run:
Three runs of the same numerical sequence, one in each suit. Player may steal, but the Han value is reduced from 2 to 1

Straight:
A hand using tiles 1-9 from any one suit, forming three consecutive Runs (Chows). The Player may steal, but the Han value is reduced from 2 to 11

Half Outside:
A hand that includes Terminals and Honors in each element, including the head. The Player may steal, but the Han value is reduced from 2 to 1.

Triple Pon:
Three Pungs, one in each suit, of the same number.

3-Closed Sets:
Three Pungs achieved without claiming tiles. Not completed with a Ron tile.

All Pairs:
A hand formed by seven pairs. Always finishes with a single wait.

Double Reach:
Double Reach is a Reach declared on the first discard Three.
|
Three Quads:
A hand containing three Kongs, They may be melded or concealed.

Three Han Hands:
Half Flush:
Formed by tiles from any one of the three suits in combination with Honors. The Half Flush goes from 3 Han to 2 when opened.

Full Outside:
A hand that includes Terminals in each element, including the head. The Full Outside is similar to the Half Outside, only minus the Honor tiles. The Full Outside goes from 3 Han to 2 when opened.

Double-Double Run:
Double-Double Run is a closed hand that includes 2 Double Runs. You cannot steal for the Double-Double Run. It does not combine with All Pairs

Lesser Colors:
A hand that includes two Dragon Pungs, and a head of the remaining Dragon.

All Ends:
A hand consisting entirely of 1, 9, and Honor tiles.

Quick Out:It is achieved when a player goes out off the first discard of another player before any Pon, Chi, or Kan is declared

Six Han Hands:

Limit Hands (13+):
Four Closed Sets:
A hand that includes four Pungs achieved without melding.

All Crap:
A hand created by singles of any 12 of the 1, 9, and Honor tiles, along with a pair of the 13th.

Greater Colors:
A hand that includes Sets (Pungs) or Kons (Kongs) of all three Dragon tiles.

Four Winds:
A hand that includes three Pungs of Winds and a head of the fourth Wind, or four pungs of winds.

All Green:
A hand composed entirely of the 2,3,4,6,8 of Bamboos and the green Dragon tile.

All Honors:
A hand consisting entirely of honors. Can be formed with Sets (Pungs) or Kons (Kongs), any of which may be concealed or melded.

|
All Terminals:
A hand consisting entirely of 1 and 9 tiles.

Out From Start:
Non-dealer goes out on dealer's first discard. For the dealer, this is the first 14 tiles; for the other three players, it is their first 13 tiles + first draw.

Nine Treasures: Holding the 1,1,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9.9.9 tiles in one of the suits, creating the nine-sided wait of 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9.
|
Four Quads:
Any hand that includes four Kongs. They may be concealed or melded.
