2. WINNING AND PRIZES

Q: Do some states prohibit playing skill-based games for cash and prizes?
A: The rules governing sweepstakes, contests and tournaments with entry fees or prizes are determined by each individual state, not the federal government. In accordance with these laws, MahjongTime does not offer fee-based tournaments in all states.

We strongly believe that skill-based gaming is different from games of chance. In addition, unlike gambling sites where "the house" is financially involved in the outcome of a game, MahjongTime only serves as a facilitator of the tournaments and does not make any money from the outcome of any tournament.

We would encourage you to contact your state legislature if you disagree with your state's policy. The laws in the following states do not currently support skill-based Money
tournaments:

If you would like to give us your e-mail to put on a list for when we are able to have
money games in your state, please contact us.

Q: What is the prize and how does MahjongTime.com determine its value?
A: The prize is what the winner receives from playing a tournament. The prize amount is the total of the entry fees less a fee that MahjongTime takes to manage the tournament and provide you the playing platform. As part of our commitment to fairness, MahjongTime never makes any money on the outcome of the competition, but instead collects a fee for providing you the platform to compete in.

Q: If I win a competition how soon will I see my winnings?
A: Your winnings will be posted to your account statement as soon as the game is over. MahjongTime reserves the right to review the game, and any game play that is determined to have been achieved through a violation of the site's Terms and Conditions will be disqualified.

Q: How many winners are there in a tournament?
A: Depends on the number of participants. The more players participating in the tournament, the more players who can qualify for a prize.

In a Mini Tournament, the prize is always winner-takes-all.

Q: What happens if there is a tie in a competition?
A: In the event of a tie, the prize is split between the tied players. If there is only one prize for the competition, the amount of the prize is simply divided evenly between the tied players. If there are multiple prizes, then the prizes for the tied spots are added together, and the total is then divided between the tied players.

For example, suppose that there is a three-way tie for first place in a large competition, and let's say that the first, second, and third place prizes are $25, $15, and $8. These prizes would be added together, and the total amount ($48) would then be split between the three tied players. In this example, each player would receive $16, or one-third of the $48 total. If there was a fourth place prize, it would go to whoever has the next highest score below the three tied players, and so on.

Q: How do I find out if I have won?
A: When you win a tournament, the winning is posted to your account statement as soon as the game is over. You can also view the winners of each tournament you participate in by clicking the “Tournament” link on the right side of the page.

Q: What is Jackpot?
A: It is a progressive tournament for money and each game that is played for money MahjongTime puts 5% towards the JackPot.

Q: How does the Jackpot rating system work?
A: The jackpot rating system is similar to the scoring in HK or CO but it is proportional to the entry fees. For example if you get 24 points and the entry fee is $1.00 you get 24 points of JackPot rating. If you play the same game but with an entry fee of $2.00 you will get double points.

Q: How much money can players win?
A: Players can win prizes starting at $3.20 and increasing depending on their entry fee and the number of players who enter a tournament.
