This month, we are spotlighting the highest ranked NMJL player at Mahjong Time - Missymocha! Missymocha has been a Mahjong Time member for just over 6 months, but in that relatively short time has demonstrated her NMJL mastery, earning a black belt and climbing to the very top of the Mahjong Time community rankings. Mahjong Time got the chance to ask Missymocha some questions:
Q: How did you originally discover multiplayer Mahjong?
My daughter (a fledgling Mahjong player) sent me the link to your website.
Q: How often do you play online?
I log on about 5 days a week. Some days I play only one or two hands; some days I can play for an hour or more.
Q: How long have you played at Mahjong Time?
I joined about a year ago, but only started playing about 6 months ago, when I became a paid member.
Q: What do you like the most about Mahjong Time?
I can play a hand of Mahjong almost any time I feel like playing. I don’t have to make phone calls to find 3 friends to play with me, and I can play only one hand if that’s all I have time for.
Q: Tell us more about yourself! What would other Mahjong Time players be surprised to know about you?
I have been playing Mahjong for about 35 years. I am semi-retired and work part time at my local zoo in the education department, working hands on with animals. My husband and I travel extensively all over the world, taking several trip each year. I enjoy spending my spare time with my family which also includes 3 married daughters, 6 grandchildren and 2 Tonkinese cats. All the children and grandchildren love playing games (of many sorts), and I love playing with them.
Q: Which style of Mahjong do you like best? Why is this your favorite?
I play AM style Mahjong. I have never learned the other types, but I am sure I would enjoy them, too.
I would not say either one is better. They are differences in playing live vs online, and both have some advantages and some disadvantages. I enjoy them both.
Q: On the subject of online play, what kind of advice would you give to the online player?
Choose a time to play when you are not likely to have interruptions at home. It’s easy to get distracted if your computer is in a busy part of the house.
