This month, we are spotlighting Nancy1223, an NMJL Card 2011(AM) player from USA. Nancy has been at Mahjong Time for over two years, practicing and sharpening her skills in American Mahjong. Nancy currently tops the AM community rankings with a black belt and 176 rating points. Mahjong Time got the chance to ask Nancy some questions about herself and advice for developing Mahjong skills:
Q: How did you originally discover multiplayer Mahjong?
When I signed up for a tournament with Mah Jongg Madness you were listed on their website. I have an Apple computer and have tried many times to play online with the National MahJongg league but they are not compatible. Your site luckily is!
Q: How often do you play online?
Everyday!
Q: How long have you played at Mahjong Time?
Since 11/24/09
Q: What do you like the most about Mahjong Time?
The friendships I have made. I feel like some of these women are a part of my family now.
Q: Tell us more about yourself! What would other Mahjong Time players be surprised to know about you?
I am a 45 year old divorced woman with one child, Rachel, who is 19 and in her first year at college. I am a nurse and have worked with babies for the last 23 years!
I started playing Mahjongg in 2008 and now I can't stop! I love it so much.
Q: Which style of Mahjong do you like best? Why is it your favorite?
I only play American Mahjongg
Q: What is better: playing live or playing online?
I like playing online when I don't have to get out of my PJ's! But I like live games too because it is great to see my friends each week.
Q: On the subject of online play, what kind of advice would you give to the online player?
When you are a beginner to the online system take the tutorials and then play at practice tables with people who are also beginners. Allow at least 10-12 seconds table so you have more time to think.
When you are more comfortable and have earned a second stripe then you are more ready to play with advanced players. Stick with it, but be careful it is very addicting! And so much fun!
