GENERAL QUESTIONS

Q: How can I learn all the games before I become a member of Mahjong Time?
A: Visit our how to play section or play "Mahjong School" games to sharpen your skills. Play "Fun Games" with other players and when you feel ready to play for real, become a Mahjong Time Member and join the Community!

Q: What is the difference between the types of competitive play?
A: Fun Games - create a game and challenge others or join an open game for FREE!
TOURNAMENTS- We host a number of tournaments daily that award Cash and Prizes to the winners! Simply pay the entry fee and have fun!
Cash games- create your own tournament and decide the entry fee. The winner will win the entry fee minus a small portion as our fee in exchange for providing you with the platform.

Q: What is Quick Mahjong™?
A: Quick Mahjong™ is a style of mahjong where you get scored as well as are rated on only one hand of mahjong.

Q: My hand had more points than the other ones – why wasn’t it Best Hand of the Week/Month?
A: Please be advised that the best hands are chosen from Cash Games. The Best Games of the Month are chosen out of the Games selected from the winning weekly hands. All the best hands are analyzed taking in to account all the factors in the deal: from the number of tiles left in the Wall to whether it was a mahjong self.
Some factors taken in account:
· How much was the hand worth
· How many melded combinations
· How many tiles left in the wall
· Mahjong Self or On Discard
· One sided wait, Single wait, Pair wait
· Dora Tiles, Ippatsu/Daburu Riichi

Q: Do some states prohibit playing skill-based games for cash and prizes?
A: The rules governing sweepstakes, contests and tournaments with entry fees or prizes are determined by each individual state (this information is for our United States-based players), not the federal government. In accordance with these laws, Mahjong Time does not offer fee-based tournaments in all states.

We strongly believe that skill-based gaming is different from games of chance. In addition, unlike gambling sites where "the house" is financially involved in the outcome of a game, Mahjong Time only serves as a facilitator of the tournaments and does not make any money from the outcome of any tournament.
We would encourage you to contact your state legislature if you disagree with your state's policy. The laws in the following states do not currently support skill-based Money tournaments:

Q: Who is ineligible to play cash competitions?
A: People less than 18 years of age, as well as residents of the following U.S. states, are restricted from entry fee competitions with cash prizes: Arkansas, Arizona, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Iowa, Illinois, Louisiana, Maryland, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee and Vermont.

TOURNAMENTS

Q: What tournaments are there?
A: Mahjong Time offers two types of tournaments:

Scheduled Tournaments:
These tournaments start at a specified time. In order to participate, you must register before the registration closes. The registration closing time may vary from tournament to tournament, and ranges from a few minutes to 24 hours before the tournament's starting time.

Sit & Go Tournaments:
These tournaments start as soon as a specified number of players are seated at the tournament table.

Q: Who is allowed to play Mahjong Time's tournaments?
A: Any U.S. resident in a non-restricted state who is 18 or older, and has a valid Visa or American Express credit card or confirmed PayPal account can become a subscribed Member.
Non-US residents must live in one of our accepted countries, be 18 years or older, and have a valid Visa credit card.
We allow one account per person.

Q: If I and my friend play from the same intranet (local network). Can we still register and play at a tournament?
A: Yes, you can! It is also advisable that you inform a Player Services representative about it. This way we will make sure that this fact is taken into consideration when you will be seated.

Q: What is the prize and how does Mahjong Time determine its value?
A: The prize is what the winner receives from playing a tournament. The prize amount is the total of the entry fees less a fee that Mahjong Time takes to manage the tournament and provide you with the playing platform. As part of our commitment to fairness, Mahjong Time never makes any money on the outcome of the competition, but instead collects a fee for providing you with the platform to compete in.

Q: How many winners are there in a tournament?
A: It depends on the number of participants. The more players participate in the tournament, the more players can qualify for the prize.

Q: What happens if there is a tie in a competition?
A: In the event of a tie, the prize is split between the tied players. If there is only one prize for the competition, the amount of the prize is simply divided evenly between the tied players. If there are multiple prizes, then the prizes for the tied spots are added together, and the total is then divided between the tied players.

For example, suppose that there is a three-way tie for first place in a large competition, and let's say that the first, second, and third place prizes are $25, $15, and $8. These prizes would be added together, and the total amount ($48) would then be split between the three tied players. In this example, each player would receive $16, or one-third of the $48 total. If there was a fourth place prize, it would go to whoever has the next highest score below the three tied players, and so on.

Jackpot

Q: What is the Jackpot?
A: The Jackpot is a progressive reward that players compete for. Mahjong Time takes a small percentage of every game play and applies it to the progressive Jackpot pool.

Q: What styles can I play for Jackpot?
A: The Jackpot covers the most popular styles of mahjong like: Taiwanese Mahjong, Hong Kong Mahjong and Riichi Competition Rules Mahjong!

Q: How many winners are there in the Jackpot?
A: There may be only 1 winner for each level of the Jackpot.

Q: What are the Jackpot Points?
A: Every Cash Game played for HK, RCR or TW Styles gives you Jackpot points so that you could be eligible to compete for the Jackpot!

Q: I had 83 Jackpot points yesterday, why do I have 0(zero) now?
A: Please note that the Jackpot prizes are awarded every 6 hours and all the players’ Jackpot points are reset after the award giveaway.

Q: How does the Jackpot Rating System work?
A: The jackpot rating system is based on your final score in the game and the entry fee. You can calculate the points by multiplying your game score with the entry fee. Please note that the score is only counted in case you have a positive score. (Your score*entry fee=Jackpot score)

Q: How much do I get for winning a Jackpot?
A: The Jackpot has 5 levels – each having a better prize! You can see a table below showing what the benefits of each level of the Jackpot are.
