The monthly Player Spotlight included in the newsletter highlights outstanding and influential players in the Mahjong Time community. In this piece, we discuss the player’s accomplishments
and ask a few personal and Mahjong-related questions. This is a great opportunity for us because we get to explore the diverse and interesting stories behind each player, and we get to hear what
the most skilled players think about Mahjong. This month, we are spotlighting flam, a Canadian player. Flam is an expert TW player, currently holding 9th place in the Mahjong Time community
rankings. Additionally, flam took 1st place in the December 2009 TW GMT and the TW Guilds Competition. Mahjong Time got the chance to ask flam a few questions:
Q: How did you originally discover multiplayer Mahjong?
A: I was just googling for Mahjong sites to play and stumbled onto MahjongTime.com
Q: How often do you play online?
A: Almost everyday now.
Q: How long have you played at Mahjong Time?
A: Oh well, I found this site in Jan, 2009, signed up to become a member but didn’t start playing right away, was quite skeptical about online gaming then , haha plus I was very into live
Mahjong games at that time. Then in July 2010, I decided to give it a try, so it has been 6 months now that I have played at Mahjong Time and just enjoy it.
Q: What do you like the most about Mahjong Time?
A: Easy to navigate, a great supportive team to answer any of your questions if you have any. You can play anytime, anywhere, even when you are away from home on vacation, just sign on from
wherever you are and there you have players from around world to play with you. There's always players when you want to play, 24/7, that's the best. And, just love to be able to
play with players from all over the world, all nationalities, just blew my mind that so many nationalities are into Mahjong, and they are good players too haha.
Q: Tell us more about yourself! What would other Mahjong Time players be surprised to know about you?
A: Hmm, about me, well I'm very blessed to be able to play Mahjong everyday and for long hours most days as I'm a stay home mom. Beside playing Mahjong almost everyday, I work out in the gym
most mornings and also do line dancing, twice a week.
Q: Which style of Mahjong do you like best? Why is this your favorite and why?
A: Well, i like TW the best coz TW does not require a minimum MP to declare a Mahjong unlike HK, the way we used to play it in live games. However, in TW at Mahjong Time there is MP 6.
I have now gotten used to it and beginning to like it. I have yet to venture into RCR.
Q: What is better: playing live or playing online?
A: Well in live games, you are playing with friends you know and there is the social side of it and also if there's any dispute it is settled right away. The negative side of it is can also
lead to argument and can be unpleasant. Live games are usually long games, and could easily run for 8 - 12 hours. Online games are short games, at most 2 hrs a game, and you are playing
with people you don’t know. They are lots of good players online too, you just got to get to know them and you will, after playing for sometime.
Q: On the subject of online play, what kind of advice would you give to the online player?
A: Well since most players go for fun games, then let it be fun. Just treat it as a fun game, win or lose. When having a bad day, take a break, watch TV and come back later to play and
hopefully your luck will turn around, lol. We all have good and bad days. Some people are luckier than others, just got to accept it.
